SpiritHorse Crop for a Cause 2009

Attention scrappers, stampers and all paper crafting artists: Mark your calendars!

We are proud to announce the date for the SpiritHorse Benefit Crop! The event will take place on March 28, 2009 at the Singing Oaks Church of Christ in Denton, TX. All the details are located in the right hand column.

It is my earnest opinion that paper crafters are some of the most talented and giving people in the world. When my friends, Dee and Sandi, approached me about helping to organize a fundraiser crop for an organization that is close to their hearts, I was interested immediately. What better way to spend a day than to gather the most talented people we know, share our love of all things paper crafting and raise awareness and funds for this worthwhile organization at the same time.

The organization we are supporting this spring is the SpiritHorse Therapeutic Center located in Corinth, TX. SpiritHorse is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides all private therapeutic horseback riding services free to people with disabilities, children who are victims of abuse, at-risk-youth, youth after drug-rehab and battered women. They currently serve over 450 children and adults FREE OF CHARGE, more than any center in the world. SpiritHorse depends on donations from foundations, corporations and individuals like you to support their program. Please visit their website to learn more about this wonderful organization and the difference they are making in the lives of children and young people in our community.

Dee has a personal connection to SpiritHorse and I have asked her to share what SpiritHorse has meant to her and her family.......

My name is Dee Wooten and my daughter Andee was in a severe car accident in 2004 at the young age of 16. After sustaining a severe traumatic brain injury, she has spent the time since fighting to regain much of that which was lost due to her injuries. The one thing no accident could take away was her spirit and her love for horses. When I first heard of horse riding therapy I began to check into some programs. But, with medical expenses still accumulating, how could we ever afford it? When I first heard of SpiritHorse, my first thought was how perfect the name sounded, but feared I'd be let down once again by the cost. Well, SpiritHorse did not let me down. When I was told that there would be no charge to the riders and their families, my spirits began to soar. Then that first day came when my daughter was once again sitting tall in the saddle. It felt so good to her to be looking down at us instead of looking up from her wheelchair. The freedom of being out of her wheelchair is a feeling that most of us cannot imagine.
I am so thankful to Mr. Charles (Charles Fletcher, Founder of SpiritHorse) that he had the vision to make SpiritHorse what it is today, with the help of volunteers and donors.
Riding therapy at SpiritHorse is still helping Andee in many ways such as gaining strength in her trunk muscles, balance, self-esteem, confidence, speech, and the list continues. You cannot put a price on the benefits one gets from horse riding therapy, and thanks to SpiritHorse, we don't have to.
